Personal Connection
After Nicole asks Ray if he called his aunt, the narrator provides the reader with some information about his aunt: “The one person in his fucked-up family—besides his grandmother, but he couldn’t even think of her—who had faith in him” (10).
Reading what the narrator says about Ray’s aunt reminded me of my own aunt. I feel that many in my family our “fucked-up” but not my aunt Laurie. She has always been a mother figure to me. In fact, when I was in my really bad automobile accident in 1997, my aunt let me stay with her while I was rehabbing from multiple broken bones. If it hadn’t been for her, I don’t know if I would have ever healed “mentally” from that tragic experience.
