Objectives: This assignment will teach the following skills:
- Understand the concept of rhetorical analysis
- Analyze form, content and context
- Write an original summary of analytic points
- Conduct research to support analysis
- Cite sources using MLA guidelines
- Show an awareness of various analytic points of view
Must-Haves:
- Write one to two original paragraphs (each being 6-8 sentences long, in your own words).
- Refer to formal elements of image and the main message being conveyed — the “Analyzing Visual Texts” PDF from this week will be helpful!.
- Make claims explaining or interpreting the effectiveness of the visual text as a piece of “art.”
- What does it contribute to society/humanity/culture?
- If any secondary source is used, please cite using MLA.
- Cite the visual text in MLA.
Do-Nots:
- Do not simply describe the visual text.
- Do not use first-person or second-person pronouns.
- Do not copy text from another source.
- Do not fail to properly cite any research sources.
- Do not simply spit back class notes.

- Analyze one visual element/technique per paragraph.
- You may want to look at the artist’s life and/or what was going on at that point in history
