Prompt: For this essay you will choose one of the topics below, research information on it, analyze it, and then form an argument (the specifics are listed in each topic) using at least one article that hasn’t been discussed from our Monsters text (if possible), and at least three other sources.
Topics:
- Horror Needed: This was discussed at the first article and the last article.
- In a more detailed form, would you argue that there is a possible need for horror and/or monsters in our life? Why or why not? Be sure to include research to support your argument
- Current societal influences over the monster/stories and what those influences mean.
- There has been some discussion here and there about societal influences, such as AI or electronics. For this topic, you will present an argument over the current influences that are sparking creators’ imaginations for horror and/or monsters, and state what it means that those stories/monsters exist.
- Health concerns that bring up fears, and possible monsters, such as viruses, parasites, and/or diseases.
- Throughout our discussions there have been many monsters that were created based on health concerns. For this topic, you will form an argument as to whether health concerns are still an influence over the creation of monsters, or has knowledge of science and medicine decreased these types of monsters.
