THE QUESTION: The subject of climate change is not new…it dates back to LONG before anyone in this course was born. Base on the material found in the climate change links folder (see class page), and TWO ADDITIONAL sources you find on your own,

  • BACKGROUND & QUESTION:

     Merriam-Webster defines SYNTHESIS as:
o “the composition or combination of parts or elements so as to form a whole” o “the combining of often diverse conceptions into a coherent whole”

    • If you have learned ANYTHING this semester, it should be that Earth is one large set of interconnected systems that are constantly influencing each other; the natural and the human worlds (essentially all the regions covered by this class). Humans often function as significant multipliers of negative outcomes (regardless of level of economic development). While the environmental issue of CLIMATE CHANGE is global in nature, its repercussions can be local, regional or even hemispheric in scope.

    • THE QUESTION: The subject of climate change is not new…it dates back to LONG before anyone in this course was born. Base on the material found in the climate change links folder (see class page), and TWO ADDITIONAL sources you find on your own, what region of the world is best OR worst positioned to handle the many complexities of climate change?

o You may take a socio-economic or purely environmental stand point when crafting your response.
o You need to respond “regionally” even if one state within the region is dominant over events in said

    region.
o Your two additional sources must be from academic sources, NOT Wikipedia or mainstream

media…again, they need to be academic.

    INSTRUCTIONS:

    • Word-process each answer (Word, Pages or a PDF file). No other file type, and no need for a cover page.

    • Three full pages (double-spaced)…can be more if you need it, 12pt font

    • SOURCES:

      • You CAN use your textbook, but it will NOT count towards the minimum of SIX sources

      • You must use FOUR of the climate change sources (can use ALL of them)

      • TWO additional sources besides the FOUR climate change ones (can be more than TWO)

      • Therefore, you must use a TOTAL of SIX sources!

    • Take advantage of the spelling and grammar tool within Word or your PDF converter.

    • No use of the “first-person” (me, I or my)

    • Your score will be determined on the thoughtfulness of your responses. You have plenty of time to think,

ponder and craft your answers…take advantage of the opportunity.

    • **YOUR RESPONSE NEEDS TO BE BASED ON MATERIAL FROM THE SOURCES LISTED IN THE FINAL FOLDER & THE TWO OTHER SOURCES YOU FIND**

    • Parenthetically reference within the body of your submission. For example, material from the BERKELEY EARTH climate change article would be referenced: (BERKELEY, 2020)

    • You work cited/references page will be added to the end and should be formatted APA style

    • https://www.citationmachine.net/apa (if you use another formatting site, that’s fine)
