The final essay questions will be Champions of Change / Research of Jeju Haenyeo.
“Champions of Change” is a great phrase to describe individuals or groups who are working to create positive and meaningful changes in their communities or society as a whole. The term “champions” conveys a sense of strength, determination, and leadership, while “change” emphasizes the focus on creating positive transformations in the world.
As a group that yearns for change, the three of us choose to be champions for change individually, but in intersecting ways. Managing change (other student), maintaining change (me), and embracing change (other student)). All are important concepts related to creating and sustaining positive transformations in society.
While change is important for evolution, it is important to preserve identity. Identity and culture are interrelated, as culture plays a significant role in shaping one’s beliefs, values, and customs, which in turn contribute to the formation of personal and collective identities. This project will focus on Korean culture in particular. Which is the culture of Jeju Haenyeo. (women divers in South Korea).
Key Questions will be,
1. Part of our program is activism: so how do we advocate to keep 해녀(Culture of Jeju Haenyeo(Women Divers) and their traditions around?
Why should I be interested in it?
2. What practices are dying how and are they being re-imagined?
3. How to embrace new customs while keeping old traditions alive?
4. How am I personally re-imaging change while also maintaining my identity?
5. In Korean culture- what practices are dying and how are they being re-imagined today
6. Cultural heritage activism- how am I re-imagining Korean paper.
7. We have to constantly think about how these important Korean materials, traditions, customs are being re-imagined today- how do we keep the culture ALIVE!
