Societal Food Issues That Have a Negative Consequences For a Large Number of People

Thesis:

Globally, it is estimated that approximately one third of the food produced is wasted every year. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the unsustainable impacts of food waste. Furthermore, we will discuss the different ways in which food waste contributes to climate change and why reducing food waste should be a global priority. Hawai’i, Japan, and Korea are three societies we have selected to illustrate these issues in a more detailed manner. We believe these three societies are well suited for the focus of our assignment because of their closeness to our own cultural roots. We chose Hawai’i because it is our host culture and we share meaningful connections with the islands. We find Hawai’i to be extremely relevant to our topic because on O’ahu alone, more than $1 billion worth of food – around 26% of the total food supply is wasted every year. We also chose Japan because Japan is a country that generates about 5.2 million tons of food waste annually. In addition to that, Japan also offers some unique solutions to their food waste problem, which we will discuss in more detail in this paper. Finally, we chose Korea because they have been tackling the food waste problem since the 1990s, Koreans used to recycle about 2 percent of their food waste – today they recycle more than 95 percent of their food waste annually. We believe that the issue of food waste should not only be addressed at a policy level, but also by individual consumers as well.
Task:
This is a critical component of your work. It is no longer based on opinion and views held by you. In this segment, your work is based on reviewing academic and evidence based research such as published work in scholarly journals.
Submission and Evaluation. Your group needs to submit a synthesis of the group’s work as a single document. Unlike previous components of the paper, here you do not compile individual work. Rather, this document is cohesive integration and consolidation of research findings.
The group will get a shared group score for the paper. However, students who were identified as non-contributors will not receive any credit points. Please see the evaluation rubric included at the end of this document.
Use a minimum of 3 academic/scholarly articles. I have provided information on how to find academic sources at the end of this section.
Content: Submit a single research paper that contains the following:
Use your thesis statement to restate a clear scope of the objective and approach of the paper.
Examine the nature and extent of the selected problem for each of the selected societies based on academic research articles. This segment is no longer based on interviews with friends and family.
As a group, summarize the main research findings based on academic literature on your selected problem. How did the academic investigation enhance your understanding of selected issues?

I have provided more information on the APA style manual in this guideline.
In this assignment, the APA format style is used only in the citation of sources in the body of the paper and preparation of reference page in the academic investigation component.
There is an APA style guide listed in the Resources section of our Laulima course site. Familiarize yourself and use this guide to cite your sources in the body of the paper and prepare your reference list.
There is also a link on the homepage of KCC library website that provides information on the APA referencing style and links to a website that assists with formatting APA references.
Go to the Library Home page. Select Resources and then choose MLA/APA Citations.
Here is a sample of APA sources citation in the body of the paper and reference listing.
Citations: According to Smith (2018) all humans use non-verbal communication to convey 70% of meaning in interactions…
Reference List: Smith, D. (2018). Non-Verbal Communication in Humans: An Exploratory Study. Journal of Signs and Symbols. 13 (5), 753-760. Doi: 0.1080/13607860902918215.
Important Note on Plagiarism. You need to cite your sources at all times within the paper and produce a reference list. Failure to cite sources amounts to the unethical practice of plagiarism in academia with serious consequences. Plagiarism will not be tolerated and can result in expulsion from the course and the College.
Using exact phrasing of the original source, even if the work is credited, is also plagiarism. The only exception is the use of quotation marks. Use of quotations should not exceed two sentences in any of the written work.
*Use of Non-Academic Sources.
In addition to (and NOT instead of) the required academic research articles you can use other sources such as those available in news media and other credible web sources.
