Any directly quoted material longer than 3 sentences (100 words) must be indented and single-spaced. You must reference at least five different academic sources (books, peer reviewed academic journal articles). You must reference at least one of the assigned articles from Geography 173 (I will attach the article (s)).
Format includes Introduction, Literature Review / Theoretical Discussion, Case Study / Body, and Conclusion. You must include section headings throughout the paper.
-Introduction: includes a strong and clear thesis statement as well as a brief descriptive outline of the paper.
-Literature Review / Theoretical Discussion: the focus of the Literature Review section is to summarize and synthesize the theoretical arguments and ideas of others and provide a foundation for the argument that you are making and act as a support for any new insights that you contribute in the body of your paper. Consider what themes or issues connect your sources. Example theoretical topics include: The Invention of Tradition, Geographies of Exclusion, Social Memory, Authenticity, Representations of Place, etc.
-Case Study / Body: Provide an appropriate name other than “Case Study” or “Body” and include smaller sub-section within if needed. This is your contribution to the larger theoretical discussion that you explained to the reader in the Literature Review. Whatever topic You choose to research is fine as long as it’s about the American West.
-Conclusion: restate your thesis here and summarize your main points of evidence and theoretical arguments. Clearly explain why this research is relevant.
