Social media has changed our lives. There are many benefits and drawbacks to the use of social media for information acquisition.
PART 1: Select a social media platform (YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok). Find a content provider that provides accurate, reliable, relevant information that would benefit a nursing student or newly practicing nurse. This may include NCLEX-style questions, skills, lab values, anatomy, pathophysiology, pharmacology, or anything else that is nursing focused. After reviewing some of their recent content, identify the social media platform, and the content provider and share what you have learned.
Consider the following questions:
- How do you know this information is reliable?
- What is your perspective (as a nursing student) on the use of social media as a learning tool?
- What are the benefits of using social media for nursing study and/or practice?
- What are some potential problems of using social medial for nursing study/practice? (based on the nursing principles of privacy, confidentiality, and consent)
