Week 11’s Reading
State Differences in Social Work Practice
As part of your seminars and journal entries for this course, you have investigated some of the specific requirements for your state. As you prepare for your career as a professional social worker, you will need to understand how these differences will have an impact your practice within your state. You will also need to understand these rules as you prepare for licensure.
To be an effective professional social worker, you will need to be an advocate for the profession, and by extension, the populations served by social workers. To do this, you must become familiar with the state statutes and regulations and know how to keep up with changes to these rules as the profession evolves. This week, you will investigate different aspects of social work within your state by identifying specific rules and statutes within your state and sharing your findings are part of your weekly seminar. You will continue this process in your next advanced practicum course so that when you graduate you will be informed of the legal restrictions and requirements within your state.
Be sure to review this week’s resources carefully. You are expected to apply the information from these resources when you prepare your assignments.
Throughout this course, you have explored the various standards and regulations of social work practice within your state of practice. You have been collecting information throughout this course about specific issues and statutes in your state. Now you will complete your statute chart and prepare a presentation examining key issues and statutes.
As you finalize your statutes chart, ensure that you are explaining the rules in the state statute using your own words rather than simply reposting the legislative language. The weblink you provide also should direct the reader to the specific state statute you are discussing.
