Do’s and Dont’s
Also, there are a few things to keep in mind regarding resumes.
First, if you have been out of high school for over a year, remove any high school information from your resume, as it is no longer relevant. I know that seems harsh, but you are all in college and many of you have careers, therefore, your collegiate experience and career experience outweigh any high school experience.
Second, remember to list educations (other degrees/colleges you have attended) and past jobs/careers in reverse chronological order. This means the most recent should be at the top, and then work your way backwards through your history.
Also, remove anything that is not relevant to the job you are applying for. Remember, one resume does NOT work for all jobs. They should be tailored to highlight the experience and skills you bring to the table for each specific job you are applying for.
Lastly, do not use a template. Start with a clean word document. Often times when you submit a resume, they are read through the computer from left to right, and templates usually have tables or areas graphed out that can confused the computer and then it does not make it to the next stage.
There should not be any information side by side, but rather start from the top and work down.
Also, make sure to list your contact information at the top, and then move on to education, experience, volunteer, etc., whatever you plan on including. Do’s and Dont’s
