This week we will focus on the research paper. You will need to choose an argumentative topic and submit your proposal and Works Cited page in one document here.
Guidelines
Free Argumentative Topic
You can choose any topic you like but it must be an argumentative topic. In the research paper, you have to take a stand on the topic and support your stand by the research that you have done.
For topic choices, look at Opposing View Points Database on the PSC Database Library
Word Limit is 2000 (about 7 to 8 typed pages)
Number of Resources: 8 of which 5 have to be online resources from PSC’s online databases. All resources can be electronic resources.
The resources should be of different types i.e. periodicals, books, encyclopedias, media, etc
You can use e-books for example.
Style and Documentation: MLA Style
First Draft Check List
a. Please make sure that you have both parenthetical citations and a Works Cited page; otherwise, I won’t be able to verify your resources nor give you good feedback.
b. Make sure that for every resource listed on your Works Cited page there is at least one in-text i.e. parenthetical citation.
c. Please remember to add a parenthetical citation every time you use a resource whether you are quoting or paraphrasing (i.e. putting the information/idea in your own words).
d. Remember to have a Title Page divided into 3 equal parts.
e. Remember to add your id on every page except the title page (last name + page number)
f. Remember to add a full id on the first page of your research
d. Remember to add the title, centered, on the first page
e. Remember to double-space the whole document and not to leave extra lines between paragraphs or between works cited entries.
d. Remember to indent each paragraph.
e. Remember to use at least 7 to 9 resources most of which should be from PSC online databases and ebooks. Rememeber to document them correctly. You need not use hard copy resources. If you use regular hardcopy books limit them to two resources.
The first draft should be as close as possible to your final draft. I will review it and give you helpful comments to help you get an “A” on the final draft.
If your paper is already an “A” paper, I will inform you and you may then resubmit without correction for a final grade
Please refer to the MLA format and documentation resources before submission
