“Hamlet” has been adapted by various directors. It is, after all, the basis for works as various as Disney’s animated children’s film The Lion King and Tom Stoppard’s absurdist drama “Rosencranz and Guildenstern are Dead” to comedian Steve Coogan’s pre-Glee high school musical comedy/drama Hamlet 2, the sequel. Research a “Hamlet” adaptation and discuss both how it parallels the original work and what the writers/directors had in mind in making the adaptation.
For your third formal assignment, you will be writing a research essay on some aspect of “Hamlet.” The finished essay should be a minimum of 1500 words (about 6 pages, typed and double-spaced, not counting the Works Cited page). You should incorporate any feedback you received on previous work, addressing any areas of weakness your instructor has identified.
Be sure to cite all quotations, paraphrases, and references to outside sources in proper MLA style. Include a Works Cited page as the final page of your paper (see pages 356-398 in your grammar handbook for tips and reminders).
You must use a MINIMUM of 5 outside sources — not counting the text itself — of which AT LEAST 2 must be located via TTC’s online databases (Infotrac, Biography Resource Center, Literature Resource Center, Films-on-Demand, etc.).
