Redesign the home, categogy, and product pages of Craiglist.
We will focus specifically on the Chicago digital experience
and will only design for desktop.
PART 1 • RESEARCH
Step 1: Evaluate the existing pages and create a content inventory.
• Make a list of every component on the web page.
• Capture the information in a spreadsheet so you can see it at a glance and easily cut/
paste it into your design later.
• Once you have the list of content created, analyze the items and determine what is the
most important and number them accordingly.

Step 2: : Review at least 3 other competitors and identify the similarities and differences
between them. Google for only retail experiences such as Ebay, Etsy, Poshmark, etc.
Look for patterns. What do they have in common? What makes them different? Overall,
how are the experiences? Be sure to look at both mobile and desktop
Answer the following questions
• What does the site do? What are the goals of the site?
• Who do you think the site is for? Capture who you think the audiences are and keep the
information in a table or spreadsheet so you can see it at a glance.
• Capture the main types of content or functionality and keep the information in a table
or spreadsheet so you can see it at a glance.
• Take a visual inspection of the site and document using screenshots.
What are the colors? The fonts? The “feel”?
What interactions are there?
How do they use the brand elements to help the user reach their goals?
• How do they handle a consistent and familiar user experience regardless of where you
are? Do things feel easy or trustworthy? What comes to mind when you click around?

Step 3 : Create three different personas by answering the following questions that help
identify the type of user they are.
• Who are the people or groups that are directly involved in or reached by this design
challenge? Whose life are you aiming to improve with the design of this page?
• To achieve their goal, what does our user need to know? Need to feel? Need to do?
And where are they on it? How much do they know? Feel?
Do they know what is needed?
• What kind of access does the user have to this service? Is it good quality?
• What are some issues that might make it challenging for the user to access the
website?
