Assignment
Overview: in this assignment, you will explore a topic related to Public
Health and your career(my career is Emergency management) in the year
2050.  You will create a visual
presentation (PowerPoint or other platform) giving an overview of the topic,
how it will impact you in the future, and how your professional career(emergency
management) may address the topic. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE SOUND to your
presentation.

Step
1: Begin
by defining a topic that will impact Public Health and your career(emergency
management) in the year 2050.  Think
about major changes that may affect health in the future, such as climate
change, changes in the way we finance health insurance, aging populations,
technological advancements, political conflicts, access to clean water, antibiotic
resistance, future pandemics, etc. A narrow, focused topic is much better than
a very broad topic (ex: instead of “climate change” you may explore the impacts
of climate change on mosquito-borne diseases). 
Do some background research to make sure you think you’ll be able to
locate adequate information on your topic. 
Whatever your topic is, it should either have a potential impact on your
career plans, or your career should impact/address the topic in some way. Be
creative!

Step
2: Post
a brief description of your topic to the Topic Approval Discussion Board
(Course Content > Module 4 > Public Health 2050 Project).  The “subject” of your post should list your
topic title.  The instructor will review
your ideas and approve, reject, or ask you to modify/explain your topic
idea.  Only 1 specific topic can be covered by each student, so review
other students’ ideas before posting).

Step
3: Conduct
research and develop a visual presentation (PPT or another platform) giving an
overview of your topic.  The Health and
Human Sciences Research Guide is a great place to start, and includes contact
information for your dedicated HHS Reference Librarian: https://researchguides.wcu.edu/HHS.   The information you include in your
presentation will depend on your topic, but may include items such as the
history of the topic/problem/innovation, predictions about how the
topic/problem/innovation will develop/change and impact Public Health, and
specifics about how the topic relates to your future career (Will it change how
your career is practiced?  What types of
education/training/experience will you need to address the topic?  Etc.). 
Your presentation must include
the following:

Influences/Outcomes related to the topic

Overview of how Influences/Outcomes Interact

o  
Bottlenecks/Leverage Points for potential
Public Health Interventions

Utilize appropriate graphics to make your presentation
more interesting and easier to understand. 
Avoid using long sections of text to explain the topic; instead, use
bulleted headings, images, etc. 

Include a works-cites slide listing any outside sources
you utilized

Step
4: Post
your presentation to the Presentation Discussion Board Start a “New Thread”
with your topic in the subject heading, and attach your presentation file or
provide a link to the file.  Check to
make sure the file has attached or the link is working.

Evaluation:
This
assignment counts for 50 of your overall total points class grade.  The following criteria will be used to
determine your grade:
