The following document provides a template with further instruction for completing Critical Analysis and Appraisal: Quantitative Nursing Research Part I
You will be working within a group of 3 to complete the assignment, unless enrollment and/or unanticipated circumstances warrant a different number per group. Your group will analyze the following primary report of quantitative nursing research.
- Authors: C. Okten, Z. Ozer
- Title: Orem’s Theory with Educational Telephone Follow-ups: A Randomized Controlled Trial
- Journal: Nursing Science Quarterly
- Year: 2022
- Volume (Issue): 35(4)
- Pg: 444-454
The work should be done collaboratively, rather than dividing the work and completing certain portions individually. In other words, complete all sections of the assignment template on your own, noting challenging areas and questions you have along the way. Then, meet as a group to discuss the work you completed individually, including any challenging parts. Come to an agreement on the content of answers, compose a final product, and submit one product per group.
The rationale for doing it this way is the “divide-and conquer” approach to group work doesn’t work. In other words, when groups break up an assignment, assigning each member to work on separate sections of that assignment, students are not able to meet course objectives. For this assignment, it is important that everyone learns how to analyze and appraise an article, in its entirety. There is another reason: sometimes groups have members that put forth unequal effort on an assignment. Giving your best effort to the assignment in its entirety prior to meeting with others ensures a more equitable involvement among group members, on every aspect of the assignment, which helps with the group’s overall effectiveness and success.
