The author Khaled Hosseini was born in Kabul, Afghanistan in 1965 and spent many years of his childhood there until his family sought political asylum in the United States in 1980. They moved there after the Soviet Union’s invasion of Afghanistan. The novel depicts the life of a young boy’s life in Afghanistan before and after the Soviet Union invasion and the rise of the Taliban regime. The story is centered around the friendship between Amir and Hassan. They’re two young boys who came from different social and ethnic backgrounds.
