Attached is my rough draft concept. My teachers comments are as follows:
I think there’s a viable project here. One issue is that it’s an issue with both foreign and domestic policy implications. For this project, you need to focus primarily on the foreign policy (importing pharmaceuticals, pushing for crackdowns on the drug trade in other countries, etc.) more than the domestic side (penalties for domestic drug abuse).

Think carefully also about the difference between legal and illegal drugs – which is the cause of the problem? If it’s legal drugs, is the problem that we import too much? Or that we overprescribe it (which is a domestic, not foreign issue)? If it’s about illegal drugs, how will reducing imports of legal drugs help?I think there’s a viable project here. A summary of the issue and previous attempts to address it;
Your proposed policy in specific terms;
How this policy relate to prior US foreign policy and/or themes and theories that suggest it is a good direction;
What effect does this policy ultimately have on (a) the US’ national interest, and (2) the US’ role and reputation in the world? If the two are at odds, why is one preferable over the other?
The paper should be double spaced using 12-point Times New Roman font. You may use either internal citations or footnotes, but do so correctly. Include a bibliography of all sources you reference in the paper. You do not need a title page, but give your paper an interesting title.Policy Proposal: Write a 10-12 page (minimum, exclusive of bibliography) paper analyzing a current issue in US foreign policy and presenting information and analysis as if you were an advisor to the President. Your analysis should incorporate ideas learned in class, whether arguing through a particular theoretical lens or relating the situation to prior US foreign policy actions and perspectives.
You should ultimately recommend a policy action to resolve the issue and include the following sections:
