Homework 2: women status

Learning Goal: I’m working on a women’s studies writing question and need the explanation and answer to help me learn.

Discription:

In many cultures, women are still treated as second-class citizens and their lower status manifests in several forms of mistreatment. For this homework assignment, you will choose an example of violence against women and analyze it as an anthropological case study. That means adopting an unbiased perspective in an attempt to understand how and why women are being mistreated within a particular culture. Your submission will take the form of a two-page, double-spaced essay (~500 words) that addresses each of the following:

1. 1. a discussion of where your case study occurs and its negative effects on women there,
   2. an explanation of the form of gender inequality from which the violence stems (see your textbook/lecture),
   3. a description of the cultural, economic, and political factors contributing to the mistreatment of women, and
   4. an explanation of what is being or could be done to counteract the problem.
