In the last decade, the dropout rate for first-generation Mexican American students in American schools has increased. The goal of this study is to look into the factors that influenced first generation Mexican American students’ decisions to attend college or drop out after high school. The study is a phenomenological case study. The conceptual framework is based on current research on first-generation Mexican American student dropout issues. Furthermore, how the concepts of family and community involvement, as well as relationships between the home and school, influence the first generation Mexican American dropout rate.
