You do not need to help me write the essay, just help me find the sources!
The instructions is below.
List the source using the JAND (AMA) format
15 sources in total:
2 review papers
5 observational studies (if possible, include cohort, cross-sectional, and case-controls)
2 experimental studies in animal models
2 experimental studies in humans
2 meta-analyses
2 systematic evidence-based reviews
First, if feasible, read the articles in an order that moves from general review articles, to observational studies, and then to experiments. Within each category of evidence, try to read (or at least be conscious of) the chronological order in which the papers have been published. Save systematic reviews and meta-analyses for last. Starting with reviews will help you get the lay of the land, so to speak. Reading in chronological order lets you see how the body of knowledge has evolved over time and as more details in our understanding have been added. As you read each article, carefully read the Introduction, Findings, and Discussion. The Methods section can be skimmed, at least initially: read enough to get an idea of what exactly was done. The Introduction orients you to why the question investigated is important and how the article fits in the body of research as well as what the purpose of the current study is. The discussion provides a critical analysis of the presented research and findings and interacts with the body of research to which the current study adds.Your reading will be slow at first, but once you see the “pattern”, you will speed up. You will notice there is a fairly rigid template that research articles follow and that makes it easier for the reader to find specific information and read through more quickly.
Creating the Annotated Bibliography:
For each of the required articles, you will write a short description of the article including three required components: the reference information, summary paragraph, and usefulness paragraph.
Reference Information:
This will be the first “sentence” for each of the article descriptions. List the source using the JAND (AMA) format which is described in the Library Subject Guide. Whenever possible, include the permalink to the article in this
section.
Summary Paragraph:
In the first paragraph provide a summary of the research question or paper topic (hypotheses and objectives may be used), methods of analysis (if appropriate), results, conclusions and recommendations.
Some questions that may be useful to thinking about while you are analyzing the research:
How does the choice of study design influence the type of conclusions one can draw from the studies?
How does the choice of model (human vs. animal type) inform the application of the findings and their relevance?
How are some studies different from other similar but earlier studies, i.e. how has the evidence built up over the
years?
What are the strengths and limitations of each study’s design? Which of these seem important in the context of
your question and paper? Were the investigated endpoints appropriate, given each study purpose?
How can the findings be interpreted (e.g. instead of just stating that “IL-2 production increased,” can you explain
what that means in terms of immune function?)
Were the findings from all studies consistent or was there divergence in the findings among reviewed studies?
Why have the findings varied? If the hypothesized effect was not observed, what might have been the reason(s)?
Are the study conclusions clinically relevant? How do they apply to the work of nutrition professionals?
Usefulness Paragraph.
In the second paragraph, provide an assessment of this paper as it relates to your synthesis paper. Remember that your final paper should not provide a lot of detailed information about the individual studies you read about (i.e. study summaries), but instead, it needs to paint the big picture by synthesizing key findings, summarizing trends, analyzing the strength and quality of the evidence, and discussing ways in which the findings can inform clinical practice decisions. You should begin identifying these items in the usefulness paragraph.
*Note: This assignment is NOT part of your synthesis paper but will help you build your paper later.
