BOT 2800 – Plants and Society
Writing assignment #3
Now that we’re almost finished with this term (and this class), you should have a better understanding of the roles that plants have played in the development of various world societies. You should also be more aware of the many roles that plants and plant products play in our modern “American society” and in your daily life.
For this assignment, write an essay discussing the various ways that plants and plant products affect you in your everyday life. You can discuss this in relatively general terms or you can even do it in diary format, following how you interact with plants and plant products on a daily basis, sun-up to sundown. References and in-text citations (author, date) are required if appropriate when you are using someone else’s ideas or facts (but you may not be using any “facts” from another source in this assignment, that’s OK here) and you must use proper grammar and spelling. –> The minimum acceptable length for the essay (for possible full credit) is three and a half to four full pages, double-spaced with 1” margins and a 12-point font. Title pages and reference sections are additional sections that do not count toward these basic page requirements. (Shorter essays will be penalized accordingly. Remember, I can copy your essay into a blank Word document and set it with the correct margins, line spacing and font size to determine if you have followed the instructions – strange spacing between paragraphs, bulleted lists, strange indentations and large margins or oversize fonts can all be discovered! Why work so hard to defeat the page requirement?) For maximum possible credit, the paper should be submitted to the CANVAS dropbox by Apr. 28, 2023, a few minutes before midnight. Late papers will be accepted (with a 10% penalty per day late) up through May 1, 2023 just before midnight, but they will not be accepted afterwards, so plan accordingly.
