You
should choose a topic early in the term, one that is of special interest to
you. (you can work on someone not covered in the class with instructor pre
approval). You should then focus on one film or actor and focus on it with
emphasis on some possible areas such as: photography, mise en scène, movement,
editing, sound, acting, martial arts style, adaptation, influences,
choreography, narrative, cinematography, character development, genre studies,
star theory, drama, story, writing, ideology, its place in martial arts film
history, its relationship to transnational or national cinema movements, or a
specific socio historical context.
Ideally,
your ideas for this paper should evolve out of your study questions or weekly
assignments but you can come up with your own topic. You will then use this
information to write a 4-6 page paper
using MLA documentation style. Part of your grade for this will include the
following requirements: a written paper proposal, an informal, and a formal
draft due at an earlier date. A few outside sources are required for this paper
– critical, theoretical, or historical. The course will include instruction on
online library research and formatting.
