examine the language used in a real-world debate, with the particular example being the debate over Critical Race Theory (CRT) in American public education following the move by many states and localities to ban CRT. The objective is to conduct a brief, but focused, comparative analysis to better understand how divisive issues get politicized and how opponents on each side of an issue use language to frame their positions in public.
This is not “a both sides have a point” paper. It is also not a summary of the issues on both sides. It is an analysis of specific language choices that each side employs by comparing/contrasting those choices. About 25-30% of the words in your paper will be material (words and sentences) that you cite from your sources. The rest is your introduction, presentation and discussion of arguments from both sides focused on how specific language choices contribute to those argument.
For this paper, you will cite at least four primary sources, and at least two from each side. You will have to find and use at least one more recent source that is not in the packet. This additional source can be one that in your view chooses a side or one that tries to be neutral. Again, your goal is not to agree or disagree but to analyze.
