Write an essay (at least 1200-1600 words) comparing and contrasting the idea of the American Dream (especially as it is represented by the American west) in Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman and Sam Shepard’s True West. Use MLA-style citations.
You will need to cite at least one outside source (other than your textbook) in your paper. This may be an online source, if you wish. Choose carefully vetted material (no Wikipedia, for example).
You will set up your paper like this:
Introduction: 1 paragraph which 1) includes a definition of the phrase “American Dream” and 2) briefly discusses how Miller and Shepard address the concept in these two plays.
Section 1: Brief analysis of the American Dream in Death of a Salesman.
Section 2: Analysis of the American Dream in True West. In this section, you will discuss True West as it compares and contrasts with Death of a Salesman.
The paper should be double-spaced.
