Dolan and Red Star each consider the importance of Edward S. Curtis photographs, as well as problems with the way Edward S. Curtis photographs depict Native Americans.
Jakob Dopp’s “Looks Can Be Deceiving: Issues Regarding 19th-Century Native American Photographs” questions objectivity in photography. Dopp explains that the conditions and situations of Native Americans and non-Native photographers resulted in photographs that looked like truth, but may not have been entirely truthful.
