Learning Goal: I’m working on a music writing question and need the explanation and answer to help me learn.
Regardless of the original intention of the 19th century composers, many of these pieces are used in modern mediums in interesting and unexpected ways quite regularly.
Watch the following videos and for each one give your general reactions and ideas as to why these pieces are presented in these formats. In addition to your own thoughts consider these ideas.
- Does the way the music has been used seem related to it’s original context at all?
- Does the Romantic era music alter your impression of what you are seeing? Is the medium or modern presentation made better, worse, funnier, more ironic, more emotional, more interesting, etc… due to it’s inclusion?
- What could potentially be gained or risked by including older types of music in modern mediums or presentations rather than more contemporary music?
