Analyzing Data and Creating Visuals *THERE ARE TWO EXAMPLES OF VISUALIZATIONS ATTACHED

Purpose

The purpose of this activity is to apply the information to a real-world scenario.

Instructions

You will produce a number of visualizations from a single dataset using a number of different visualization tools. A number of data visualization tools are discussed in Part 3, Lesson 3 of the highly recommended textbook  Digital Marketing Analytics: In Theory and in Practice. You may choose from the tools found there.

Step 1: Find the data.

(2 points)

Find a source of numbers-based data (e.g., a company balance sheet, sales trends, Google search volume over time from Google Trends, etc.) that you want to analyze.

  • You only need one dataset.
  • Include the title and source of your data.

Step 2: Create various visualizations.

(9 points; 3 points per visualization)

Step 3: Evaluate the visuals.

(8 points; 2 points per question)

Evaluate the visuals by answering the following questions. You only have to answer each question once, based on the three charts you’ve created.

  1. Do the visual forms effectively communicate the data?
  2. Can insights that exist in the data be seen easily in the visual form?
  3. Which visual best expressed the data you have chosen?
  4. Which visual is the least effective?

Clear and correct use of grammar in your write-up is worth 1 point.

Submission Format and Word Count

Please submit a write-up that includes

  1. title and source of your data,
  2. the screenshots of the three visuals you created,
  3. the name of the tool(s) you used to create each visual, and
  4. your evaluation of the visuals.

You can either create a table or write short paragraphs for these questions while sharing your experience. Answer the questions in the prompt.

Submit your work as Word or PDF attachment.

Your submission should be between 250–400 words, excluding graphics, appendixes, and references.
