Grading Rubric for Research Papers: There are three main criteria that I will use to evaluate the quality of your research papers: 

a. Volume, Quality, and Scope of Evidence Provided: How much researched information was discovered and included in the paper? Is the information provided coming from multiple sources to help triangulate, verify, and further substantiate the claims? Is there a mix of quantitative and qualitative data? What are the sources that provide the researched information and are these sources credible?
 b. Depth of Analysis in Your Commentary: How well do you explain the data that you found out through your research? How well do you articulate ways in which the outcomes (illustrated by the data that you found out in your research) could have been improved; or if there are negative outcomes, how could have these outcomes been avoided or their negative effects been mitigated? Are you able to articulate the analysis provided by your sources that you agree with or are you able to provide your own analysis and support it with reasoning and accompanying evidence? Are you able to apply theoretical perspectives or formulate your own theories in your commentary?
 c. Organization of Your Discussion, Concision and Clarity of Your Prose, and Grammatical Soundness: Are all of the technical elements (statement of research question, significance of research, bibliography, in-text citations, conclusion and introduction) of the paper included and adequately addressed? Is there a logical flow to your discussion? Are the arguments you make to support your claims cohesive? Do you ramble in your discussion? Are you verbose or repetitive in your discussion? Did you carefully review the paper’s grammar and spelling? Are you using formal language in your paper? 
d. Assignment of Scores on Research Paper: I will be grading your research paper holistically and using class-established benchmarks to assign grades. The former means that I will not assign points for each criterion, but instead evaluate the overall quality of your paper. This latter means I will compare the quality of your paper with the quality of the papers that your classmates produce. The plan for me is to read all the class papers first and then use them to determine benchmarks for what will then be considered “A” range, “B” range, “C” range, etc. scores.
