Learning Goal: I’m working on a music exercise and need the explanation and answer to help me learn.
For where have all the flowers gone composed by Pete Seeger and Joe Hickerson, do a small amount (c. 30 minutes) of reading/listening about the composer and/or songwriter, lyricist/poet (if applicable), and the piece. You may use the links provided on Quercus as a starting point, but also listen to a few other pieces or songs by them, or read some other poems by the poet if applicable. If you consult other sources/websites, provide a list of links at the bottom of your journal (you do not need to formally cite your sources).
respond to the following:
- How do you think the composer/songwriter chooses to express the text in the music? Are there specific musical decisions in the piece that help us/the audience to understand the meaning of the words? What can you do in your personal practice, and what can we do in our full choir rehearsal, to best rehearse and bring out these important moments in the music and the text? Make specific references to the score (use page numbers or bar numbers), text, and/or your own research.
