1) Do not use the 1st person in any form (I/we/us). Do not use 2nd person “you”. Must adopt a formal 3rd person tone.
2) Do not use contractions.
3) As much as possible, write about Hamlet using present tense verbs.
4) Do not use “had”.
5) Must cite in MLA format.
6) Cite/quote Shakespeare properly.
7) In your first reference to the author, give his full name: William Shakespeare. Remember the “e” at the end of his name.
8) Do NOT abbreviate the title of the play.
9) You need at least two quotations, plus an analysis, per body paragraph. You can have more than two, but whatever you quote needs to be analyzed and connected to your main argument(s). Quotations are your direct supporting evidence.
10) Essay must include an introduction paragraph, 3-4 body paragraphs and a conclusion paragraph. With a clear thesis that doesn’t exceed 2-3 sentences.
11) For this thesis creation, think of cause and effect. Because one key event happens or words are said, something significant follows.
