Instructions for this Assignment:

The overall goal of this assignment is to make a clear argument about what the future of your topic will be, using the thesis from the proposal OR a revised one after doing research. This shouldn’t focus on background information about your topic; that was what Project 1 was for.

This should be based on your research from the annotated bibliography (Project 2).

The purpose of this assignment is for students to demonstrate competency with the Student Learning Outcomes in the Syllabus by doing the following:

  • Showing an understanding of how sources share ideas in common by clearly discussing connections between ideas in 2 or more sources.

  • Demonstrating familiarity with sources in their organization and introduction within the paper.

  • Effectively using sources to support your argument in ways that show understanding of the whole source rather than cherrypicked quotes.

  • Using organization and transitions in order to smoothly guide readers through the paper.

  • Having a clear and easily-identifiable thesis that the essay is working towards.

  • Contributing something unique to the currently-established conversation rather than just rehashing your sources.

You can also get some new sources if you find that your annotated bibliography doesn’t have everything you need, but the course is designed so that you don’t need to completely throw away the work you did for your annotated bibliography.

Reflective Letter

The letter a page, single-spaced with Times New Roman size 12 font  and thoughtfully, but concisely, explores:

  • The student’s process for organizing sources within the paper

  • How they approached making the paper align with the rubric

  • What revisions they made as they wrote and from peer review

  • How they tailored the essay to their audience
