In the Module Notes, we looked at several factors that can influence transportation, warehousing, and distribution requirements from manufactured good sources to customer needs (end-to-end). It is critical that supply chain system managers understand how these factors impact transportation, warehousing, and distribution requirements when planning and executing effective transportation and distribution strategies.
Pre-Step: Make sure you have reviewed the Module 6 Module Notes and Required Readings.
Step 1: Choose an international manufacturing firm.
Step 2: Consider the following prompts:
- Analyze the importance of measuring performance in the global transportation, warehousing, and distribution network of the firm you chose in both domestic and global operations. Within your analysis, you must provide specific information about that business and examine why it is important to measure performance for each of the following functions: 1) transportation; 2) warehousing; and 3) distribution.
- Identify specific key performance indicators that might be utilized by your chosen firm in domestic and global operations. You must examine performance indicators for each of the following functions: 1) transportation; 2) warehousing; and 3) distribution.
- Explain how the performance indicators are linked to customer service goals for each of the following functions: 1) transportation; 2) warehousing; and 3) distribution in both global and domestic operations.
Step 3: Craft a 3 to 4-page essay using APA formatting.
The required title page and reference pages do not count towards your page count. Using at least three scholarly resources (including those found within this module) to support your analysis, your essay should address the prompts in the steps above. The title and reference pages are required but do not count towards the 3 to 4-page count.
