The purpose of this assessment report and
reflect on the findings of your own pilot audience research project, and show
that you know how to prepare a survey or focus group script for undertaking
audience research.

You need to write up the results of your
pilot research proposal in the style of a short research report detailing your
findings. You may incorporate information and writing from your original
proposal, but you should demonstrate revision and response to feedback. You
must incorporate the following:

Research report: Introduction, audience
profile, literature review, methodology, pilot findings, conclusion including
directions for future research.

Methodology, literature and findings
must demonstrate close engagement with concepts from class readings and
materials, including ethical considerations.

Conclusion/directions for future
research should explain the approach and choices taken in the focus group
script or survey questionnaire. Attention must be given to the intended
audience sample and design of questions to elicit required information from
participants. Attention must be given to ethical considerations of the research
– be sure to consult the Audience Research Ethics guide and other materials
provided in this unit.
Script for focus group research OR survey
questionnaire (Appendix 1, not included in word count) This should be based on
the findings of your pilot research and your experience of the classroom focus
groups, and explained in your ‘directions for future research’ section. The
questions should be designed to elicit the information intended – as outlined
in your ‘directions for future research’ section.
