This course investigated how ideas of race and ethnicity developed in the U.S. in relation to the world. The relationship between the U.S. and the world, however, went through a drastic change throughout U.S. history. List and define the terms that characterize the relationship between the U.S. and the globe and list at least three events that brought the U.S. onto the global stage after 1865. Lastly, discuss the impact of the U.S. on the world during this period with respect to race and ethnicity providing three examples; that is, in what way(s) has America impacted racial and ethnic developments in other nations?
For the final exam, students will write an essay (5-page max) discussing the impact of the U.S. on the world with respect to race and ethnicity. The essay should focus exclusively on assigned sources including a minimum of 4 primary and 4 secondary sources and only consult external sources after assigned sources have been exhausted.
