The purpose of this Assignment is to apply the concepts and
expertise we have developed over the course by responding to two Essay prompts below.
2. What differentiates a local
Chinese leader from those at the national level? There are many ways to
approach this question, and your answer will be based on both its
inclusiveness/breadth as well as its analytical sophistication and nuance.
2. How have the constraints, challenges, and
opportunities faced by China’s leaders changed over time? How much of
that is due to changing circumstances and how much is due to the evolving role
of personalistic power vs. institutional development in China since 1949?
Requirements:
1. You must submit both essays in one document.
2. Each essay is to be 500- 750 words,
one-and-a-half-spaced, with justified margins and auto-hyphenation
enabled; please do not exceed 750 words per essay. Please type in the
word count of each essay at the top of the
first page.
3. This paper is to reflect
research and have footnotes or endnotes
(conforming to a widely used style format, i.e., The Chicago Manual of Style or the Modern Language Association) and
include citations as applicable. Poorly formatted
citations may be penalized. The number of words used in endnotes or footnotes
does NOT count in the word limit.
