Design a recreation/sports facility and program in the city in your hometown. Plans are to be submitted in a
notebook with a table of contents.
A. Survey
Interview 3 individuals* from the following age groups:
1 – parent with children under the age of 13
1 – adult age 18-35
1 – adult age 35-55
Include:
1. Name of each person
2. City where they grew up
3. City they currently reside.
*Individuals must come from the city in which you are designing
the facility. Individuals are not to be relatives.
B. Location
1. City demographics (populatons, average income, parks, etc.)
2. Site location strengths/weaknesses
C. Existing Facilties
– Local competition
– Present number of facilities within a 20 min drive (list each and what they offer)
– Area sports programs
– Number of competitors who have opened or closed doors – why?
– Youth vs. Adult programs
D. Business Plan
1. What is the purpose of your facility?
2. What type of programs will you provide for each age group? How will you schedule the programs?
3. Business partnerships
4. Budgeting
a. What are your revenue streams? (Be specific)
b. What are your expenses?
c. What are your employee expenses?
d. What is your business structure?
E. Facility Design
Hand draw to scale the recreational building and fields. Plans must include court dimensions.
The facility must match your business plan. Remember “design follows function.”

List projected program revenues and expenses, (You do not have to include the cost of your building your facility.)
Floor Plan – Draw to 1:5 scale your facility and at least one athletic field. Include doors, windows, restrooms, courts, etc.
Use a ruler and graph paper which will be provided to you.
