Compare and contrast the media coverage of the several classified documents investigations underway. Look for how the stories are framed, what context is provided, the sources used by journalists and critique the coverage from the perspective of whether the stories individually and collectively provide people with information they need to make decisions in their lives.
DIGITAL CLIP FILE
Students will select three (3) media platforms – print, digital, broadcast or streaming – and collect a digital clip file of at least five (5) stories from each platform.
Students will select one non-American media platform and collect a digital clip file of at least five (5) stories from the platform.
Students will collect a digital clip file with five (5) editorial, opinion or analysis pieces from one or several media platforms.
CONTENT and ANALYSIS
Using the framework of journalistic practices discussed in class, students will write a 6-10 page paper analyzing the coverage of the classified documents issue. The paper should include elements of mass communication theory discussed in class and offer an honest assessment of the various strengths and weaknesses of the different media platforms’ coverage.
