Topic: Discipleship/Spirituality. Ignatius of Loyola, Reminiscences §§8-9, 35-53, 85-86a, 93-95 on Jerusalem
In the passages assigned this week from Ignatius’s Reminiscences, he speaks a number of times about Jerusalem, and one of them is his own report of his only journey to Jerusalem. Your task: decide what is the significance of Jerusalem to Ignatius, on the basis of what he says about it in the Reminiscences. Use the research format Question-Evidence-Conclusion. Present your results in formal essay format as assigned (check in >CC)
Question: What is the significance of Jerusalem to Ignatiius, and, later, to the first Companions, in terms of their vision for their ministry?
Evidence: Examine Ignatius’s reports of his own Jerusalem pilgrimage & that planned by the Companions, for clues about the significance of Jerusalem for them all. This data-gathering is the most important, and the most time-consuming part of your research & postings.
Conclusion: How does Ignatius’s evidence answer the Question? Connect the Evidence (which you will have just evaluated) explicitly to your Conclusion
