Find one RESEARCH article related to your topic. Refer to the chapters (13-23) in the book for ideas, format, and examples. You may use a chapter that we did not cover if it relates to your proposal. For example, we didn’t go over chapter 480, Historical Research, but if your proposal will be using that research method, then you may choose that type of article. Most importantly, it must be a research article that has all of the categories below. An article from Sports Illustrated would not have this kind of information.
Using the outline below, analyze the article. Each of the chapters has an example offered so you can see how to do this analysis.

PURPOSE
Introduction – Give a brief introduction (1-3 sentences) to give the necessary background to the study and state its purpose (in your own words).
JUSTIFICATION/PRIOR RESEARCH
Why was the study conducted? What was it about? If citing other sources, use APA for in-text citations.
DEFINITIONS
Do the researchers need to define any constructs?
SAMPLE
Describe the sample used in study.
HYPOTHESIS
What did the researchers say the hypothesis was? What did they expect to find?
INSTRUMENTATION
What instruments were used to measure the dependent variables? What was the reliability and validity of the instrument. What procedure was used to obtain reliability and validity?
METHODS
In your own words, describe the research method used to address the research question. Who were the subjects? How were they grouped? What did they have the subjects do? Under what conditions? For how long? What was measured? What was being compared?
DATA ANALYSIS/INTERPRETATION OF RESULTS
Findings – In your own words discuss the major findings and results. How were the data analyzed? How useful or significant were the findings? (what did the author(s) say about it?)
CONCLUSIONS/INTERNAL VALIDITY
In your own words, summarize the researchers’ conclusions. What was the major outcome of the study?
PERSONAL COMMENTS
Give your reaction to the study? Such as: What did you learn from the study? How might you apply the results in a future sports management application or in your proposal?
