This semester, your assays, media project, and annolated bibliograply must be focused on one case, so this essay must cover the same person / crime(s) you have researched all semester.

Note: You will be creating an annotated bibliograply for this assignment. Your bibliography should include works oited entries for ten (10) sources you are fairly certain you wil be using in this essay. Under each entry, you will include a four to ten sentence annotation which explains the source and its valse. This annotated bibliography is a completely separate assignment, turned in two weeks before the essay. See the annotated bibliography handout for more details.
This essay itself is an extensive, researched, persuasive essay in which you will argue whether justice was done in your case or not. Ultimately, YOU will define the concept of “justice” as it relates to your case.
Remember that this essay must stand alone. In other words, a person should not have to read your previous work to understand your argument. As such, you will present background information on the perpetrator (or accused), the victim(s), the crime(s), the investigation, the trial, and what happened after the trial.
This argument should be complex.
For example, in some cases, justice was not done, but you should explain why, and that will be your argument. Was the investigation botched? Did outside factors, such as the media, complicate the case? Maybe the accused died by suicide, natural causes, or murder before or after conviction. Was the death of the accused under these circumstances “justice” or not?
In other cases, justice was eventually done, but justice came much too late. In cases like this, you will explore the factors that delayed justice. Was the criminal an unexpected criminal? Were the victims not the “ideal victims”? Did law enforcement miss clues? Did technology have to advance in order to expose this criminal? Sometimes, all of these factors – and more – came into
play.
In still other cases, systemic failures contributed to the crimes happening in the first place. Did lapses in security (school, airport, venue, Internet) allow these crimes to happen? Did implicit or explicit racism play a part?
In general, you may choose where you place the most focus in your argument, and you may choose exactly how you believe justice was either served or not; however, your approach should be clarified in the introduction and thesis.
You may be using quite a bit of basic background information you have presented in previous work, but I expect you to arrange it in new and interesting ways. You may use sources you have used in your earlier essays, but feel free to bring in as many new sources as you would like
Please keep direct quotes to a bare minimum, 10% or less of your total word count. Only quote when absolutely necessary, and when and if you do quote, place an in-text citation directly after that quote.
For the most part, skillfully summarize all of the information you find into your own words AND document the sources) behind that information. If an entire paragraph is a summary of one source, the in-text citation can be placed at the end of that paragraph. I will expect at least one in-text citation per body paragraph, and I will also expect at least ten sources listed on the works cited page. Your in-text citations and works cited page must match clearly AND exactly.
Although this essay will be based on your opinion, you will use sources to back up what you say. You should also avoid using “I think.” “I believe.” or “in my opinion. If justice was not done in the case, why and what went wrong. You must follow these general guidclines for the essay:

To use many of these primary sources, you will need to describe and interpret them. For example, if you uncover an iconic case photograph in your research, you will NOT copy and paste the photo into the essay, Instead, you will describe the photo and explain what it reveals about the case and why it is important. You will then document where you found the photo, both with an in-text citation within the essay and on the works cited page.
If vou use at least one primary source in this essay, you will earn ten extra-credit points. I will add those points back in after I grade your essay. However, in order to earn these extra points, you must use and document a source that iS CLEARLY a primary source, AND you must indicate which source is a primary source on the works cited page by using blue font for that source only. If you do not follow these instructions, you will not earn the extra points.
You must also follow these specific guidelines:
No unnecessary use of “I’ and related pronouns (me, my, mine, etc.)
