Assignment: Your task for Essay 3 is to (1) write a 2000-word minimum essay where you
forward a claim, argument, and/or interpretation about a topic, concept, and/or issue (list of
possibilities below) that shows up in A Raisin in the Sun. Additionally, as this is a literary analysis
essay, you will need to (2) demonstrate how specific literary elements (elements of drama)
support, illustrate, and/or help develop the claim you are making about Hansberry’s work.
Lastly (3), for this assignment, you will incorporate scholarly, peer-reviewed sources to help
support, develop, and/or strengthen your argument.
Purpose: The purpose for this assignment is for you to continue practicing literary analysis of
diverse texts, applying the skills and knowledge you’ve gained throughout the semester.
Further, this assignment allows you to practice supporting your claims with credible outside
