Your paper will take the form of a literature review, which will include a statement\n<\/div>\n
of the problem, a review of the major issues covered in previous research, as well as\n<\/div>\n
a discussion of the relevant policy\/program issues related to the topic. Each of these\n<\/div>\n
sections should be clearly identified in your paper.\n<\/div>\n
Statement of the problem\n<\/div>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 In the statement of the problem, you should define\n<\/div>\n
what you are studying and why it is important to do so.\n<\/div>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 This is intended to \u00e2\u20ac\u0153hook\u00e2\u20ac\ufffd the reader \u00e2\u20ac\u201c this is where you get the reader\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s\n<\/div>\n
interest and convince them that this topic is worth consideration and why.\n<\/div>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 This is, essentially, the introduction to your paper.\n<\/div>\n
Review of the literature\n<\/div>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 In this section, you should present the findings from research conducted by\n<\/div>\n
others in this area or related areas. Questions that might be relevant are:\n<\/div>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 What have others said about this topic?\n<\/div>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 What theories have been used to account for this\n<\/div>\n
issue?\n<\/div>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 What research has been done?\n<\/div>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 Are the findings consistent or inconsistent?\n<\/div>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 What flaws exist in the previous research?\n<\/div>\n
\u00c2\u00a7 A literature review should NOT include your opinion or\n<\/div>\n
thoughts on the topic \u00e2\u20ac\u201c this is only about what others have\n<\/div>\n
said or researched on the topic.\n<\/div>\n
\u00c2\u00a7 You should include a minimum of eight\n<\/div>\n
academic research studies in this section.\n<\/div>\n
The literature review should be organized in some meaningful fashion that is\n<\/div>\n
appropriate to your topic. Don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t just detail one study after another \u00e2\u20ac\u201c try to integrate\n<\/div>\n
the studies together somehow. Possible ways to organize a literature review are:\n<\/div>\n
\u00c2\u00a7 by date of the studies being reviewed \u00e2\u20ac\u201c if there has been some change in the\n<\/div>\n
topic historically or if research on the topic is different in one time period\n<\/div>\n
than another, this might be a good way to organize your literature review\n<\/div>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 by themes \u00e2\u20ac\u201c if there are a few themes that consistently emerge in the\n<\/div>\n
research, then this might be a good way to organize your literature review\n<\/div>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 by context \u00e2\u20ac\u201c if there are a few different contexts in which the previous\n<\/div>\n
research takes place, it might make sense to organize the literature review\n<\/div>\n
around those\n<\/div>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 by findings \u00e2\u20ac\u201c if there are inconsistent findings in the past literature, you\n<\/div>\n
might want to organize the literature review around findings that are\n<\/div>\n
supportive, not supportive, and neutral (or whatever groupings might be\n<\/div>\n
relevant).\n<\/div>\n
When discussing a study in your literature review, you want to be sure to include\n<\/div>\n
the key findings and the methodology used in the study.\n<\/div>\n
Try to be current in your literature review \u00e2\u20ac\u201c while older studies can be informative\n<\/div>\n
and are often essential, you always want to make sure to have the most current\n<\/div>\n
studies included in your review as well.\n<\/div>\n
Policy\/program issues\n<\/div>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 Based on the literature that you have reviewed, what suggestions have been\n<\/div>\n
made by others regarding policies or programs related to your topic? What\n<\/div>\n
suggestions would you make regarding policies or programs related to your\n<\/div>\n
topic? All suggestions should be somehow tied to the studies that you\n<\/div>\n
referenced in your literature review \u00e2\u20ac\u201c don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t contradict your literature review\n<\/div>\n
in making suggestions.\n<\/div>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 This is essentially the conclusion to your paper<\/div>\n
The paper must be a minimum of five full pages of text (i.e., not including the cover\n<\/div>\n
sheet, references) and include at least eight academic research studies.\n<\/div>\n
\u00e2\u20ac\u00a2 Non-academic sources can be used to supplement the academic sources if\n<\/div>\n
necessary, but should be used sparingly.\n<\/div>\n
