1st Phase of Research Article Critique<\/p>\n

The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate the student\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s understanding of research principles and methods in social work research, as well as the ability to be a good consumer of research literature and findings.<\/p>\n

The critique paper <\/span>must be written using correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, and be in APA <\/span>
6<\/span>th<\/span> edition format. The critique paper should be <\/span>3 <\/span>\u00e2\u20ac\u201c<\/span> 5 <\/span>double<\/span>–<\/span>spaced typed pages using 12<\/span>–<\/span>point <\/span>
font and one<\/span>–<\/span>inch margins. <\/span><\/p>\n

Below is the format to use for or<\/span>ganizing your article critique.<\/span> <\/p>\n

1.<\/span> Introduction\/Purpose<\/span>
What is the purpose of the study? Is there adequate background about the problem and <\/span>
why it is being studied? <\/span> <\/p>\n

2.<\/span> Research Question\/Problem<\/span>
What is the research problem and research question(s)? How are<\/span> the <\/span>
hypotheses\/research questions to be examined and\/or tested? Are the research <\/span>
questions\/ hypotheses clearly connected to the research problem and the literature <\/span>
reviewed?<\/span> <\/p>\n

3.<\/span> Variables<\/span>
What are the variables of the study? How are the <\/span>independent (intervention) and <\/span>
dependent (outcome) variable(s) conceptually and operationally defined? Are there <\/span>
additional variables? Identify and describe them.<\/span> <\/p>\n

4.<\/span> Sample<\/span>
Who is the sample? Is <\/span>the <\/span>sample representative of the greater population? How is the<\/span>
sample for this study\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s research problem applicable to diverse groups of people and <\/span>
populations at risk?<\/span> What methods are used to identify research participants and how <\/span>
was the sample selected? What were the procedures used to ensure that human <\/span>
subjects <\/span>were protected from any adverse impact of their participation in the study? <\/span> <\/p>\n

5.<\/span> Method<\/span>\/Data Collection\/Data Analysis<\/span><\/p>\n

What methods of research are used in the study? Is there a study design that is <\/span>
explained and how is the design described? How were the da<\/span>ta gathered in this study? <\/span>
What are the measures\/instruments used? How were the data analyzed? If <\/span>
statistics\/statistical tests were presented in the study were they appropriately <\/span>
explained? What do they mean? How the results are presented (tables, figu<\/span>res)? Are <\/span>
they clear?<\/span> <\/p>\n

6.<\/span> Findings\/<\/span>Conclusions<\/span>
What were the major findings of the study and how did the author interpret and explain <\/span>
the findings? What are the implications of the findings for social work practice or <\/span>
policy? What are the <\/span>limitations of the study? Does the author present areas for further <\/span>
research and study?<\/span> <\/p>\n

7.<\/span> Critique<\/span>
Were each of the sections developed appropriately? Why or why not? Were the <\/span>
sections d<\/span>escribed thoroughly? Why or why not? What did the authors do well? What <\/span>
information was left ou<\/span>t?<\/span><\/p>\n
