Let your<\/span><br \/><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">interviewee know they are welcome to make up the answers or omit something, if it feels<\/span><br \/><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">too private. Of course, we have do not have this latitude with real patients but you will<\/span><br \/><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">learn just as much from the assignment, even if it is not the whole truth and you will<\/span><br \/><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">preserve the privacy of your friend or family member.<\/span><br \/><strong><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">3.<\/span> <\/strong><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\"><strong>Document three generations in chronological order .<\/strong> You do not include the in-laws of<\/span><br \/><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">siblings or the in-laws of aunts\/uncles in the construction of the genogram&#8211; this is not so<\/span><br \/><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">much about a family tree as it is about inheritable diseases. You do not inherit from in-laws.<\/span><br \/><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">Therefore, while you would, for example, include a spouse of the patient (subject person) in<\/span><br \/><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">the genogram, you would not include the spouses of the patient\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s siblings.<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\"> You do include<\/span><br \/><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">the spouse of the patient not because they can inherit diseases from them but because it is<\/span><br \/><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">so relevant to family structure, particularly if there are children.<\/span><br \/><strong><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">4.<\/span><\/strong> <span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">Include a key using medically approved abbreviations. Medical abbreviations must be in<\/span><br \/><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">alphabetical order in the key. <br \/><strong><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">5.<\/span> <span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">Significant medical history must be documented<\/span><\/strong><br \/><strong><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">6.<\/span> <\/strong><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">Subject person needs to be identified; family members are identified by a symbol<\/span><br \/><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">representing male or female.<\/span><br \/><strong><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">7.<\/span><\/strong> <span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">Age must be noted (if living) or the age of death (if deceased); cause of death identified by an<\/span><br \/><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">asterisk (*).<\/span><br \/><strong><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">8.<\/span> <\/strong><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">Ages need to be documented in either ascending or descending order<\/span><br \/><strong><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">9.<\/span> <\/strong><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">Final genogram is documented via a computer program<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\"> or <span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">hand drawn<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">. (Must be neat, no crayon drawing on a random piece of paper.)<\/span><br \/><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\"><strong>10<\/strong>.<\/span> <span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">Points will be deducted for disorganization.<\/span><br \/><strong><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">12.<\/span><\/strong> <span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">Review your genogram and write a one to two-page summary in APA format identifying your subject with conclusions and<\/span><br \/><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">health promotion recommendations about the health trends that you see within the family<\/span><br \/><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\">constellation.
