Read <a title=\"Helpful Technology Tips\" href=\"https:\/\/samuelmerritt.instructure.com\/courses\/3385889\/pages\/helpful-technology-tips\" data-api-endpoint=\"https:\/\/samuelmerritt.instructure.com\/api\/v1\/courses\/3385889\/pages\/helpful-technology-tips\" data-api-returntype=\"Page\">Recording and Uploading Videos<\/a> for help with this tool.<\/p>\n<p>These topics are examples to facilitate ideas about policy issues that may be of interest to you:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>RN staffing ratios in your state (legislation and regulations)<\/li>\n<li>Universal health care coverage<\/li>\n<li>Medicare prescription drug legislation<\/li>\n<li>Drugs and consumer marketing<\/li>\n<li>EMTLA<\/li>\n<li>Genetic Non-Discrimination Act (GINA)<\/li>\n<li>Access to midwifery services<\/li>\n<li>Soda policy in public schools<\/li>\n<li>Assisted suicide legislation<\/li>\n<li>BPA in plastic and regulating this based on health concerns<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Collect<\/strong> data, <strong>research<\/strong> the issue, and <strong>prepare<\/strong> materials for a formal presentation. Class readings, outside readings, information from state and national websites, and information from special-interest groups, professional organizations, and other interested parties will be collected and used to frame the health policy issue identified.<\/p>\n<p>Preparation is the key to an effective and successful health policy presentation. Each student must be prepared for the presentation. This is a significant portion of the course grade.<\/p>\n<p>The following are suggested issues to include in the presentation:<\/p>\n<p><em>Note<\/em>: This is not an exhaustive list. Students are expected to collect and present information beyond this list.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What is the history of the health policy issue?<\/li>\n<li>Why is this an important issue in U.S. health policy?<\/li>\n<li>Are there any past or current legislation or voter initiatives regarding this health policy issue? (There does not need to be current legislation being considered; you might be suggesting a legislative action or recommending further attention to this issue by legislators).<\/li>\n<li>If legislation is identified, when was it first introduced or considered and in which part of government?<\/li>\n<li>Who sponsored the legislation? Why?<\/li>\n<li>What is the sponsor&#8217;s history with this issue?<\/li>\n<li>What changes were made in the legislation prior to passage or what is the current status of the legislation?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Identification of key stakeholders\/interest groups:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What individual or special-interest groups or stakeholders are concerned with this health policy issue? What is their interest?<\/li>\n<li>If there is relevant legislation that groups support or oppose? (This may be in addition to legislation described above.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Analysis of health policies or legislation to address the issue:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What policies have been proposed to address this issue?<\/li>\n<li>What is the potential or actual effect of any proposed legislation?<\/li>\n<li>Who has been helped (or might be in the future) by the legislation or health policy change?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Financial implications:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What are the costs related to this health policy issue?<\/li>\n<li>What are financial implications of legislation\/health policy changes?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Post<\/strong> your 5 to 8 minute video presentation in the Week 14 Health Policy Presentation discussion<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Learning Goal: I&#8217;m working on a nursing question and need the explanation and answer to help me learn.
