Assessment and Analysis:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>Students will select sites\/spaces\/elements by mandatory and secondary spaces.&nbsp;\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Through observation, students will be expected to assess, and analyze:<\/div>\n<div>-If the sites\/spaces\/elements meet the minimum legislated accessibility<br \/>\nrequirements in the:<\/div>\n<div>1)OBC; and&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>2)AODA DoPS;&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>3)Which of the 7 Principles of Universal Design are NOT met, and why?&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Where dimensions cannot be verified, it is expected that students will search for<br \/>\ncues in the images to give a sense of the dimensions within the space.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Consider taking out a measuring tape and start mapping out some dimensions to help yourself understand what 1100 mm may feel like.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>B. Redesign&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>Students will take their selected sites\/spaces\/elements, and redesign them to meet:&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>-The minimum legislated accessibility requirements in the OBC,&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>-and AODA, DoPS; and Universal Design and Better Practices for Accessibility.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>In addition, students will report on:&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>-Cross Disability Perspective Analysis to determine if and how the new design<br \/>\nis inclusive for:&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>1)Persons using mobility devices.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>2)Persons hard of hearing or are Deaf.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>3)Persons who are Blind or have low vision.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"background-color: var(--color-6); color: var(--color-1); font-variant-caps: inherit;\">4)Persons have limited dexterity.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"background-color: var(--color-6); color: var(--color-1); font-variant-caps: inherit;\">5)Persons who have limited strength and stamina.&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"background-color: var(--color-6); color: var(--color-1); font-variant-caps: inherit;\">6)Persons with cognitive disabilities (neurodiversity).&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"background-color: var(--color-6); color: var(--color-1); font-variant-caps: inherit;\">7)Persons of short stature.&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"background-color: var(--color-6); color: var(--color-1); font-variant-caps: inherit;\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"background-color: var(--color-6); color: var(--color-1); font-variant-caps: inherit;\">The redesign of the identified sites\/spaces\/elements should include:&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"background-color: var(--color-6); color: var(--color-1); font-variant-caps: inherit;\">-Technical drawings (plans, elevations, and sections with dimensions) that will illustrate how the design meets the minimum legislated accessibility requirements.&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"background-color: var(--color-6); color: var(--color-1); font-variant-caps: inherit;\">-Renderings that will illustrate the final design solutions.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: medium; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">1) Selection \u2013 Mandatory and Secondary Sites\/Spaces\/Elements:&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: medium; cursor: auto; color: inherit;\">Students will be expected to complete accessibility audits (assessment\/analysis) of various elements in the built environment. Audits can be a combination of virtual assessments\/analysis via Google Maps, zooming in a street view, review of images from architectural or interior design publications, or any site that is safe, available to you, and that you feel comfortable being in. Any images that are used, or sites that you visit will serve as a starting point for the project. In any selected images you will be expected to make some assumptions about the size of the space based on elements you can observe. It is important to cite the source of your images if they are not your own.
