Please read carefully. For this assignment, the goal is for you to analyze the article as any non-clinical person without sources of support would. As such, the analysis should be your individual thoughts, ideas, and summaries pertaining to the article. Therefore, there should be no citations, quotes, or paraphrases as you should not need to consult outside sources for your summative and substantive content.<\/b><\/span>

Per the instructions, “NO outside sources are necessary or should be used for the paper…Your report should be your OWN thoughts and ideas about what the article is communicating.”<\/b><\/span>

Each student will write
\nan analysis of a non-professionally based<\/u> source of
\ninformation on health care in the United States<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sources can range from
\na full-length article in a magazine, printed newspaper, or electronic
\nversions of newspapers<\/b>, to freely accessible blog sites and media outlets
\nfound on the internet.<\/span><\/p>\n

Whatever the source
\nbeing critiqued, it must be aimed at the average consumer and NOT the
\nprofessional RN or health care provider.<\/span><\/b> Think
\nof items that the average patient or patient’s family member would likely
\npresent to you and ask for your opinion about. The article must also be
\nno older than 90 days.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>The consumer press
\nincludes magazine<\/span><\/b>s (Time, Newsweek, Good
\nHousekeeping – anything the lay public may read) and local or national
\nnewspapers.<\/b> The full-length web version of a magazine or newspaper
\narticle can be used. Save the article right away since free access to
\nsuch articles may stop a few days after they appear.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>The article must be
\naccessible to the instructor at the time of grading.<\/span><\/b> So save the web page and include it as an
\nattachment in the assignment submission<\/b>. Otherwise, you may be docked
\npoints for an inactive URL submission.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nformat for the article reference, at the beginning of the report. <\/span><\/b>You do not need to use citations in the paper or other
\nreferences, since all Summary and Analysis content is drawn from the
\narticle. NO outside sources are necessary or should be used for the
\npaper.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

\nyour OWN thoughts and ideas about what the article is communicating.<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

\n(working) URL!<\/span><\/b> If this is not accessible by the
\ninstructor a deduction in grade may be applied.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>The paper will consist
\nof two portions: a Summary and an Analysis. Clearly indicate these sections
\nwith APA Headings.<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>The Summary<\/span><\/b> of the article should be no more than 1-2 paragraphs.
\nThis should tell the reader what the article was about and the major
\npoints that were made in it.<\/b> Your opinions do not belong in this

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>The Analysis<\/b> of
\nthe article should be no more than 3-4 paragraphs. Here is where you provide
\nyour Analysis of the issue or event described in the article.<\/b> Focus on
\nthe relationship to the Nursing Profession, the Healthcare System or the health
\nof individuals, families or communities. The Analysis should demonstrate
\nthat you have considered the source of the publication (magazine, website,
\netc.)<\/b>, that you evaluated what was presented<\/b>, and that you
\nhave made a decision as to the reliability of the information presented<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Depending on the topic
\nof the article, address any relationship (in 1-2 paragraphs) to any
\ncurrent or pending Legislation, the relationship to Healthcare Institutions,
\nBarriers or Facilitators to access to care, and Ethical, Cultural or Diversity
\nissues in health care.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n
