Research Journal Instructions<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Purpose: <\/span><\/u><\/b><\/p>\n

Research
\nJournals are where you\u2019ll present your secondary research for different
\nportions of the Report.  <\/span>This assignment
\nalso enables you to share your insights and research with your teammates and to
\nensure that each team member is collecting different sources so there is no
\noverlap.<\/span><\/p>\n

Assignment Details: <\/span><\/u><\/b>For each source, you will provide Chicago Manual Style citations, detailed
\n<\/b>notes, and broader takeaways focused on how you\u2019ll use these sources for
\nthe report<\/span>. 
\n <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7      
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>You should take
\ndetailed notes on each source <\/b>so that you don\u2019t have to come back to them
\nlater.<\/span>  <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7      
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>These notes will serve
\nas the basis for writing the Recommendation Report<\/b> and help to communicate
\nyour perspectives and knowledge to your teammates<\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Format:<\/span><\/u><\/b><\/p>\n

\u00b7      
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Create an individual Google doc on your team\u2019s page on Canvas<\/span><\/b> for the Research Journal.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7      
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Find the specific type
\nand number of sources<\/b> identified in the instructions for individual
\nResearch Journals.  <\/span>(Search for the
\nbest sources, not just the first sources you find.)<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>For each journal entry
\nand for each source, follow these steps:<\/span><\/p>\n

1.    
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Provide
\na Chicago Manual Style (CMS) bibliography-style citation<\/span><\/b> for each source.  Citations should
\nnot be numbered, should be placed above the notes for each source<\/b>,
\nand should be in the Works Cited\/Bibliography format <\/b>(Last
\nname, first name. “Title.” Publication information, date.), indenting
\nall lines after the first one.  (This way you can easily copy and paste
\nthese into your team’s final Bibliography.  You can also use footnotes,
\nwhich we’ll use for the report, but please provide the bibliography style
\ncitation above the notes.<\/span><\/p>\n

2.    
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Provide
\ndetailed<\/span><\/b> notes on each
\nsource.<\/b>  You should extract everything useful from the source so
\nthat you don’t have to return to it.<\/i><\/b>  It’s fine to copy and paste
\ndirectly from the source, but make sure to put any copied material in
\nquotations so you can properly cite it in the report and avoid plagiarism.<\/span><\/p>\n

3.    
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Provide
\nbigger-picture takeaways on how your team might use this material when writing
\nthe report<\/span><\/b>.  The goal is for
\nthese journals to build the foundation for the written material in the
\nreport–both the information you need about the organization, as well as
\nsupport for the recommendations your team presents.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nleast 2 sources about your organization and\/or on the focus of the team’s
\nproject<\/b>.  This can include the organization’s website, social media
\noutlets, articles about the organization or key stakeholders, as well as
\nsources that help you understand the task your team is focused on (how to
\nmarket this type of organization, how to complete a competition analysis, how
\nto retain this type of employees, etc..).  <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\nmore focused your research is, the better the outcome will be.  Don’t
\njust go for the first sources you find; use the best sources you find!<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
