  For Writing Assignment #1: The DOOM, you are to pretend you and your immediate family, or
\nyour best friends, have survived a world-wide disaster. You are left with only the possessions you
\ncurrently have in your house, car, backpack, and purse\/wallet. Electrical power is spotty, it comes
\nand goes so it is not reliable. Water is available but it too is limited. The internet is down, it is not
\nworking at all. There is no social media. Few cell phone towers have sufficient power to operate so
\ncommunication with other people is nearly impossible. But then communicating with people you
\ndon\u2019t know is extremely risky \u2013 some will be helpful and others will want to kill you. So do NOT
\ntrust people you may meet on the Internet and social media. Staying off the grid is safer than trying
\nto connect with others online. The remaining people are panicking and there is widespread looting,
\nand violence is increasing. People don\u2019t trust each other as they are unsure of who is friend or foe.
\n But you can\u2019t stay isolated forever if you are to survive. <\/p>\n

Your assignment is to pick at least three (3) different things that will affect Public Health in this
\nscenario. You are to discuss why these things are important to Public Health, how their loss impacts
\nPublic Health, any ways you can think of to correct the loss of these things, and which essential
\npublic health service(s) apply to your things. If the lost things are not repairable discuss why you
\nchose not to attempt to repair them. For repairs, be realistic in your abilities. If you couldn\u2019t drive a
\ndump truck before the disaster you won\u2019t be able to drive a dump truck after the disaster. If you
\nknew nothing about plumbing before the disaster you won\u2019t be able to fix plumbing after the
\ndisaster. Thus, your survival is dependent on finding others who possess skills\/talents\/necessities
\nyou do not possess. Initially all you have is yourself and your family or close friends. Yours and
\ntheir survival is more important than connecting to the internet (Internet connections are of
\nsecondary importance). The goal is to survive and work in harmony with other people, especially as
\nit relates to public health.<\/p>\n

Structure: This paper needs to have at least five (5) paragraphs. One paragraph for each thing you choose to write
\nabout, one paragraph for an introduction, and one paragraph for a conclusion.
\n\u2022 Each paragraph needs to have at least 3 complete sentences (subject, verb, and predicate).
\n\u2022 The paper needs to be between 1.5 and 3 pages in length not including any references you use.
\nReferences are only needed if you are quoting or paraphrasing an outside source. Papers longer than 5
