To analyze a research study from a peer-reviewed nursing journal using concepts learned in this
\ncourse and then present the analysis using a PowerPoint and video tool.

\n<\/span><\/p>\n


<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2022 The article is to be a nursing research study found in a
\nnursing journal.<\/p>\n

\u2022 The study is to me a quantitative research study and consist
\nof either a descriptive, correlational, quasi-<\/p>\n

experimental, or experimental design. *Qualitative studies,
\nMeta-analyses, Systematic Reviews, Integrative Reviews, Quality Improvement
\nStudies, and Instrument Development Studies are not to be used.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Each presentation should be no more than 12-15 minutes in
\nlength and consist of 13-14 slides (see rubric for the content of each slide).<\/p>\n

Steps for Analysis:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Identify the background and significance of the nursing
\nproblem (i.e., Why is it a nursing problem and<\/p>\n

why\/how is it significant to nursing).<\/p>\n

\u2022 Identify the study\u2019s research problem and the purpose
\nstatement of the study.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Identify the research question and what, if any, are the
\nhypotheses. Only use what is in the<\/p>\n

research article \u2013 do not provide something that is not
\nthere.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Describe the research design (i.e., interventional or
\nnon-intervention, then descriptive, correlational,<\/p>\n

quasi-experimental or experimental), the design\u2019s purpose,
\nand what the design classification\/sub-type<\/p>\n

is.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Identify the sampling method: probability or
\nnon-probability and the type (e.g., simple random, cluster,<\/p>\n

etc.). Include why this method was used for this study.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Identify any research instruments (limit to four, but
\nthere may only be one or none for some designs)<\/p>\n

that are measuring the dependent variable or concept under
\nstudy. Do not identify physiologic instruments, e.g., weight scale. Include how
\nthe author(s) did or did not identify the instrument\u2019s reliability and
\nvalidity.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Identify each statistical analysis test used in the study,
\nand its symbol (whether used in the article or not).<\/p>\n

\u2022 Explain what each statistical analysis test measures and
\nwhy it was used for this study based on the research design. Include
\ndescriptive\/ inferential, parametric\/ nonparametric, type of data, level of
\nmeasurement, number of variables, and number of groups. If the statistical test
\nis not covered in the course, you will need to find other resources to answer
\nthe questions.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Present a summary of the study\u2019s statistical results
\nillustrating key statistical data. Condense the statistical results to your own
\nillustration to show the key (not all) results answering the research
\npurpose\/problem.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Succinctly describe the study\u2019s key results in your own
\nwords<\/p>\n

\u2022 Identify and explain at least two threats to internal and
\ntwo threats to external design validity. If the<\/p>\n

author(s) do not discuss these in the article, are there
\nthreats you identified? Do not make up threats<\/p>\n

that do not exist.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Describe future research recommendations and the clinical
\nsignificance of the study as provided by the<\/p>\n

Pointers for the Nursing Research Study Analysis Presentation (based on where students lose points):<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Follow the <\/span>rubric<\/b> <\/span>for each slide you create to ensure you get the maximum points.<\/li>\n
  • Slide #3 – connect your study to a <\/span>nursing problem<\/b><\/li>\n
  • Slide #5 – do not solely state what the article says as the research design. Include why the researchers chose this design (its purpose) <\/span>and<\/b> <\/span>the design\u2019s classification\/ sub-type (e.g., quasi-experimental, nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design)<\/li>\n
  • Slide #9 – make sure you include <\/span>all<\/b> <\/span>the aspects of the statistical tests as requested (e.g., an independent t-test is a parametric inferential statistical test used with interval level data that determines whether there is a statistically significant difference between the means in two unrelated groups).<\/li>\n
  • Slide #10-11 –  Do not<\/b> <\/span>use tables or diagrams from the article. Create your own visual (graph, chart, table) limited to the statistical results related to the dependent variable.<\/li>\n
  • Upload your PowerPoint file to VoiceThread and then do the narration in VoiceThread.<\/li>\n
  • Make sure each slide has audible narration before you submit the assignment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
